Guitars

Want a solid, pro-level instrument for a reasonable price? Tone Shapers puts together guitars to showcase the parts we sell, plus we like guitars and so it's fun to hotrod them! You won't find expensive guitars on our site. We sell guitars targeted to players who - for whatever reason - are looking for quality guitars they can gig with, but that typically fall in the $1000 - $1500 price range. Quality guitars, with frets properly done, properly setup, properly wired with top-quality electronics, and with quality hardware.

Tone Shapers has guitar techs on hand with many years of experience. We're not the corner music shop, we're seasoned pros. The foundation of our business lies decades in the past, when we were a full-time repair business. We were a gold-level service center for Fender, and an A-level service center for Gibson, the highest level for both companies. So we know what we’re doing.

Consequently, you can expect a very high level of workmanship in the guitars we hotrod. We know how to get the best from the parts involved, and the end result is a guitar that plays great and sounds great – one you will be proud to play and to own, and one that doesn’t break the bank. How cool is that?

That brings us to this: We’re in the parts business, not the guitar business. We won’t have many guitars in this section at any given time. Unfortunately, while most players will acclimate easily to various guitars, some players really fret – pun intended – over the most minor of details. We’re not interested in sending guitars out to have the tires kicked, we’re providing detailed information about the guitars, including high-quality photos, and the ability to hear the guitar before buying. For this reason, unless the guitar is received by the purchaser in a condition other than we stated - or it is materially deficient - there will be a cost to return it that will cover our handling time & costs.

A guitar that we receive back in the same condition as we shipped it out will incur a 5% restocking charge, and if the guitar was shipped to the customer at our expense, that shipping charge will also be deducted from the refund. Guitars returned in a condition that is deteriorated from when we shipped it out will incur more than this, commensurate with the amount of deterioration. Selling and shipping guitars around the country (or the world) is costly, and produces wear and tear on them, and we want to avoid that.

Some guitars you'll find in this section are made of 100% new parts, and some are used guitars that we've refurbished with new parts. The parts themselves will often carry a warranty - Fender bodies and necks, for instance, carry a 1-year warranty, and Fralin pickups carry a 10-year warranty. But these guitars are being sold with no manufacturer's warranty. We are an authorized Fender dealer, so if we put together a Strat with a Fender neck, and within one year the neck becomes problematic then it would be reasonable to expect Fender to stand behind it. It would not be reasonable, however, to expect Fender to stand behind the Duncan pickups, or the Callaham bridge, or the ToneShaper wiring components. We think this is probably obvious to most customers, but we're stating it for the record nonetheless.

So have a look! Hopefully we'll have something in stock that will be just what you need!
