Machined from the same alloy as their ABR-1 bridge, Callaham's machined-steel stop tailpiece yields the additional definition and frequency response that so many Gibson-style guitars need. The tonal change is akin to going from a dead set of strings to a new set of strings. Coupled with their steel ABR-1 bridge, the instrument starts to take on piano-like qualities. The notes are absolutely solid and the feel of the response is highly touch sensitive. The need to re-tweak your amp settings is not out of the question - you should be able to flatten out the response so that switching from bridge to neck is more balanced.

You can use your existing studs, or purchase Callaham's locking tailpiece studs separately (studs are not included with this tailpiece).

nice to have, subtle differences

I had chosen my Les Paul 50ies standard after testing against other Gibsons and PRS S2 anniversary models and it stood out already. Then I enhanced the tone and sustain by changing the original bridge to an ABM bridge made from fully machined brass. This made a difference in clarity and sustain, note definition.

Now to the Callaham Steel Tail Stop versus the original lightweight Alu tail stop. The Callaham Tail Piece weighs a bit more than the double, the build quality is awesome. However when it comes to tone and sustain, I could only hear marginal, subtle changes. Probably a little bit more trebles and sustain while attack and dynamic slightly worse. Again, the differences are so small, that this is a very subtle feedback. Eventually at strumming tone had a bit more depth. After all I would say it is not really worth to change this piece if you already have a good light Alu Tail Piece (if you have a casted zinc ally then probably yes). To me, the bridge change I did had more and notable impact. Last but not least, if you use heavy strings, the Callaham will sure not bend or twist at all.
